Wildlife Discovery Experience (all year levels & ESL) [formerly Pat and Chat]
The Wildlife Discovery Experience is our most popular living lesson and takes place in The Pines Elanora Discovery Den. This exciting new outdoor teaching space is located in a beautiful natural setting where your students will be immersed in nature.
Your students will have the opportunity to meet three of our amazing animals that may include a python, lizard, phasmid (stick insect), echidna, possum, frog or baby crocodile (depending on availability and excursion focus). This interactive experience focuses on animal adaptations, diet, habitat and conservation, is linked to the Australian Curriculum and tailored to your students’ year level. Specific topic requests can be made when booking.
Students will also have the opportunity to discover the interactive zone where they can handle artefacts, explore life under the microscope and touch feathers, bones, skins and more.
Indigenous Experience (all year levels & ESL)
Immerse your students in culture at Currumbin! Our Indigenous Experience will teach your students about our local area and its people, significant landmarks, weaponry, Dreamtime stories such as the Rainbow Serpent, myths, languages, instruments and ceremonies. Our Indigenous education officer will be your host, with your experience taking place in our new outdoor Ngulli Nyeumba Amphitheatre (meaning “we teach” in the Indigenous Yugambeh language).
Behind The Scenes Tour (all year levels & ESL)
Discover what happens Behind The Scenes at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. A special VIP pass lets you go where few other people can. Guided by one of our wildlife education officers you will visit food preparation kitchens and learn about a ‘day in the life of a zoo keeper’. At our Wildlife Hospital you will learn about the typical cases of animals that come into care. The tour also includes a visit to our animal training and presentation area where you will learn about husbandry and training techniques, and see some of the birds that star in our daily shows.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary offers Wildlife Studies to school students as an extra-curricular activity. The course is presented by highly experienced professionals in wildlife husbandry and is designed for students with a keen interest in wildlife. It is a real zoo experience and gives students exposure to working in a zoo environment. The program can be tailored as needed from eight weeks to a full year.
