Currumbin Sanctuary would like to welcome the arrival of our first birth (or hatch!) for 2015 – a Scaly-breasted Lorikeet! The proud parents were found abandoned by the roadside in 2013 and spent a few weeks in the wonderful care of Parrot Rescue (www.parrotrescuecentre.com ) before being rehomed with us in our Forest Fringe Aviary. Scaly-breasted Lorikeets are declining in number on the Gold Coast due to habitat destruction and competition for nest hollows. You can help by erecting a nest box in your backyard or planting native flowering plants in your garden. See the following link for instructions on how to build your own nestbox http://www.wildlife.org.au/wildlife/livingwithwildlife/image/nestbox_instructions.pdf
