We regret we do not have resources available to offer any work experience programs to high school students. Instead, we offer the opportunity for high school students to participate in our school based traineeship program – please see below.
School Based Traineeships
Over the last 6 years, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has successfully hosted over 150 School Based Trainees who work one day per week here at the Sanctuary to learn on the job work skills, and also learn theory to gain a qualification at Certificate 3 Level. The School Based Traineeship Program is open to Year 10 and 11 High School students. These traineeships are paid roles, but are by invitation only, and places are limited. We take great pride in offering this learning opportunity to skill up motivated young school students, so you can earn while you learn and kick start your career. Traineeships are for work within the following departments: Food and Beverage, Retail, Visitor & Member Services, Sanctuary Admin & Support Services.
In 2016, CWS is offering School Based Traineeships in the following four qualifications:
• Cert 3 Hospitality
• Cert 3 Tourism
• Cert 3 Business (Retail)
• Cert 3 Business (Administration)
PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer School Based Traineeships in animal related roles.

INDIGENOUS SCHOOL BASED TRAINEESHIPS
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is an active supporter of creating employment pathways for Indigenous students within our organisation. We have partnered with Prestige Service Training (PST) to offer a new opportunity to Year 10 and 11 students to “Earn while you Learn”. You can gain a Certificate 3 qualification while still at school, and be paid for the work experience you do. If you are interested in a career within the Tourism, Hospitality, Admin or Retail industries, this could be a dream opportunity for you. CERTIFICATE 3 IN TOURISM OPPORTUNITY - AUGUST 2016
Prestige Service Training are currently partnering with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to provide the opportunity to gain an understanding and work experience within a world leading tourism environment. This opportunity will take place whilst earning a Nationally Recognised Qualification; Certificate III in Tourism. Work skills can be transferred to work in a range of jobs including Hospitality, visitor service, food and beverage, retail and many other exciting opportunities. Hosted onsite at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary – theory and practical work placement will be conducted across the Food & Beverage, Retail and Visitor Services departments. You will gain an understanding of the skills required to be a successful employee in fast paced tourism environment.

Certificate 3 In Captive Animal Management
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary does not provide direct work experience that is required to complete Certificate 3 Captive Animal Management. However, we have entered into a partnership with selected TAFE colleges that deliver this Cert 3 qualification. If you are accepted into these TAFE courses, your work placement may be conducted here at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Please click on the link below for more details.
WORK EXPERIENCE FOR VET NURSING STUDENTS
We have developed partnerships with selected TAFE colleges that offer the opportunity to study to be a Veterinary Nurse (Stage 1 – Cert. 3 in Animal Studies) or Veterinary Nurse (Stage 2 – Cert 4. in Vet Nursing). If you are accepted into these TAFE courses, your vet nursing work experience will be conducted at our Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
