Work Experience for High School & TAFE & University Students at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
PLEASE NOTE: No applications from parents or High School students will be accepted. Applications must be completed, in full, by the School Work Experience Co-ordinator or similar school representative.
Work experience is a very important component of a teenager’s development and quest for career experience and advice.
Please see below timetable of a typical week that each student will spend here at the Sanctuary. We have altered this program slightly to what has been run in the past, can you please take a look and see if your department is able to fulfil these requirements. We are trying to offer the students the best overall experience of working in a wildlife park. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let us know!

Monday 9.00 am to 12noon - Induction and Famil with Education Team 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm - Mammal Keeper Round M1
Tuesday 7.00 am to 4.00 pm Green Cauldron keeper round
Wednesday 7.00 am to 12 noon - Presentations 1.00 pm to 4 pm - Night Tours Round
Thursday 7.00 am to 4.00 pm - Bird Keeper Round B2
Friday 7.00 am to 12 noon - Mammal Keeper Round M2 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm - Koala Photos Keeper Round
We are aiming to only offer Work Experience during term time (not during holidays). Although, we have some students pre-booked for holidays. As discussed, please check the itinerary, your feedback is much appreciated.
Work Experience Policy
Please read prior to applying.
There is a minimum age of 16 years – this policy is not negotiable.
A $30 deposit (refundable) is required for shirt and badge (this will be returned on the last day of the placement).
Each school is only permitted a maximum of 2 x 1 week placements per year.
For High School students, the application form can only be submitted by the School Coordinator or similar School representative. No applications from parents or High School students will be accepted.
TAFE and Uni students are authorised to submit application form themselves and must arrange insurance.
Insurance details need to be faxed through at least one week in advance of the placement start date. CWS Education Department Fax number is – (07) 5598 1764
Work experience is offered in term time only, not during any school holiday periods.

CWS retains the right to grant or refuse entry to the Work Experience program.
Application process
Please read the work experience policy above and the OHS declaration (51.9kb PDF) to make sure you meet all conditions listed.
Check the online calendar and select available weeks for 2010.
The student prepares a brief resume outlining their demonstrated interest in Australian Wildlife.
TheSchool Coordinator completes the On-line Application form,
lists 3 date choices & attaches the student’s resume. This online
form is automatically directed to the CWS Education department for
processing. (Forms submitted by parents or high school students will
not be accepted.)
TAFE and UNI students are authorised to complete and submit application form themselves.
If you are accepted, CWS Education department will email back the placement confirmation & starter pack details.
The School Coordinator must then forward insurance details to CWS. Please fax to 07 5598 1764.
Day 1; student hands in WHS declaration, pays $30 refundable deposit and receives shirt & badge.
Day 5; student returns shirt & badge, any assessment paperwork is completed and $30 deposit returned.
